Menorca: Monte Toro

Monte Toro is the highest point on the island of Menorca and at 358 meters above sea level, it’s the island’s only prominent hill, offering stunning 360-degree panoramic views of almost the entire island and even the distant Mallorca. On the very top, there is the Santuario de la Verge del Toro (Sanctuary of the Virgin of Toro), a a 17th-century church built over an older Gothic structure, it houses a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Menorca. Also in Monte Toro is the Monumento al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (Statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus), a figure with arms outstretched, reminiscent of the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, though much smaller).
