Mexico/Baja Sur: San Ignacio – Mission San Ignacio
Mission San Ignacio de Kadakaaman was established by Spanish missionaries in Baja in 1728. Its without a doubt the most beautiful church on the peninsula! The mission was established in the heart of Baja in an oasis that today is known as the town of San Ignacio, roughly equidistant between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. The stone structure stands on the central square in town, on an elevated platform and visible from everywhere. And if you are staying in town, the church is beautifully lit at night and can be enjoyed with a margarita in hand from any of the restaurants around San Ignacio’s central square.
