Mexico/Chihuahua: Copper Canyon – Hotel Mirador in Posada Barrancas
You can’t visit the Copper Canyon without staying at the iconic and one of the kind Hotel Mirador at the highest point of the canyon. The bright red hotel building is literally cut into the vertical wall and nearly suspended in thin air with the best imaginable view of the canyon from sunrise to sunset, absolutely surreal. While it may be getting slightly dated, the decor is still tasteful, amenities good, terrace views are unparalleled, and the hotel serves wines from its own collection produced here in the Copper Canyon. The place is isolated and quiet, and every room offers the view – 180 degrees of it! Service is generally good, but some of the rigid and frankly stupid hotel rules and rather inflexible management administering them is a bit of a bummer – not a minute of late checkout is allowed, and they put all arriving guests in adjoining rooms while the occupancy is less then 10%.
