Mexico/Sonara: Crater El Elegante at Gran Desierto de Altar
El Elegante Crater is a nearly perfectly round volcanic crater in the heart of the Gran Disierto de Altar in the Sonoran Desert south of the US border. It’s part of the dormant volcanic complex of Pinacate Peaks and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The crater is 250 ms (820 ft) deep and 1.5 kilometers (0.93 mi) in diameter. It has nearly vertical walls below the rim and you can walk the entire circumference.
