Mexico/Jalisco: Tequila – Casa Orendain Distillery
The third distillery we went to in Tequila was Casa Orendain, and this was by far the best tour. We got to see the entire production facility and all the steps of distillation process. Massive mountains of blue agave plant hearts were awaiting their time to be heated up and baked in ovens. Then they are mashed and distilled. Unlike other tequila distilleries, Orendain distills their product three times, making it extra smooth and fine. There was a lot of tasting here – we even tasted the 80% alcohol after first distillation, and then in the tasting room it was basically – “tell us what you want to try and we will pour it for you, no limits”.
