Mexico/Nuevo Leon: La Huasteca Canyon
Just outside the city of Monterrey, lies a spectacular canyon La Huasteca. Here, limestone spires and ridge rise very sharply from the desert flor, some nearly 1000 ft/300m up and almost vertically. There are a lot of scenic overlooks and also rock climbing areas around, the desert flora is stunning as well. Being so close to the city, it’s a bit crowded and a bit trashed but still well worth it. The canyon forms part of the sprawling Parque Nacional Cumbres de Monterrey.
