Mexico/Oaxaca: San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya
Another 10km east from Tule is the town of San Jeronimo Tlacochahuaya, famous for its 16th century church. The beautiful church stands on a high point in the town and is surrounded with a wall, making it almost fortress-like. It was built in 1586 by an indigenous Zapotec labour force that left traces of their own influences in both the architecture and decoration of the Catholic house of warship. Sadly the church was closed, but it supposedly had a very old ornately decorated organ and amazing frescos inside.
