Mexico/Queretaro: Queretaro City
Queretaro is the capital of the state Queretaro. And it probably is the best looking and most beautiful of all the colonial cities in Mexico. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The historic center is compact and very easy to explore along its geometric grid. It’s super clean, super safe, super spectacular. Colonial architecture galore here – Cathedral of San Francisco glows orange in the sunset light, just a few blocks north are Church of Santiago and Templo de Guadelupe, also grand looking in the afternoon. In between are endless souvenirs stalls and markets. In the opposite direction, also within a mere couple blocks are Templo de Santa Clara and Templo de Carmelitas, and the grand Cathedral de Queretaro. The city takes great pride in its architectural treasures and all of them are scrumptiously lit at night.
