Mexico/Veracruz: Gulf Coast Food Recap
Mexican Gulf coast encompasses the long coastal state of Veracruz with its unique mix of Mexican and Afro-Caribbean dishes. The coastal plain rapidly turns into mountains so from the cuisine point of view two items stood out – fresh seafood and coffee. Driving south of Veracruz, there is a small village of just about 5-6 shacks and each of them is a seafood place, shucking fresh oysters and serving shrimp and crab dishes. Cheapest oysters ever – $1 or 20 peso for a dozen! Yes, just $1!
