Mexico/Yucatan: Cenotes Samula and Dzintup
Yucatan is full of cenotes – sinkholes in the ground that lead to subterranean passageways and cave complexes or deep pools of clear water, there are dozens of cenotes in central Yucatan. Two of the most famous cenotes are located near Valladolid – Samula and Dzintup (aka Xkeken). Both are deep below the ground level, and you descend down to the pools of crystal clear blue water that is swimable and refreshing. Absolutely stunning treasures of nature, these two cenotes have openings in the rooftops allowing for ray of sunshine to illuminate the interior and shine on the water.
