Mexico/Yucatan: Izamal
The city of Izamal is known as the Yellow City as most of the buildings are painted yellow and the center of Izamal is dominated by the massive Franciscan Monastery of Saint Anthony de Padua. The sprawling monastery was built in 1561 and up to this day has the second largest open air atrium in the world (second to only Vatican). The city was also a major Mayan settlement and there are remains of two very large pyramids still left, although most of the stonework from the pyramids was used by the Spanish for the city construction. Izamal is a Pueblo Magico.
