Micronesia: Kosrae – Wiya Bird Cave

This large cave is located hidden in the jungle and is about 150 feet deep opening into a giant domed ballroom. Thousands upon thousands of swiftlets live here in the depth of the cave – not an easy task of trying to photograph them. One can walk along the walls of the caves (and hope not to get firebombs by birds), as the middle of the cave is very deep soft mud. Luckily I had a 5-year old local guide who even posed for a few cave shots and clapped her little hands to make the birds fly around you.
