Micronesia: Pohnpei – Climbing the Sokeh Ridge

So Pohnpei is the next state of Micronesia. And the Sokeh Ridge looms high above its main town of Kolonia. The hike up to the top is a grueling 700 feet of vertical, in 100% humidity and scorching heat. On top, there is an amazing jungle forest and several remnants of Japanese WWII defense batteries – long range gun and anti-air gun – all falling apart and being eaten away by the jungle. The views from the top are phenomenal – you can see the island’s heart as well as the fringing reef and the island with the airport and runway on it. Add birds of paradise flying around and parrots screaming…
