Monaco: Monaco Ville – Palace Princier aka Prince’s Palace
Monaco Ville stands on a headland in the western part of the tiny country of Monaco and is also often referred to as the Rock. Unlike the surrounding densely populated narrow streets of Monaco, the Monaco Ville is actually quite wide-open and empty. Palace Princier aka Prince’s Palace, the residence of the ruler of Monaco is located here. Originally built in 13th century as a Genoese fortress, the palace grounds have some panoramic views out onto the lower city and the Mediterranean Sea. The fortress was renovated many times over the centuries and eventually turned into a luxurious palace by Louis-XIV.
