Mongolia: Amarbayasgalant Monastery

Amarbayasgalant is one of the three largest and oldest monasteries in Mongolia, and is located at the far north of the country, and this is little visited and perhaps for that very reason was spared destruction during the communist years. Construction took place between 1727 and 1736. Today, 28 temples remain intact and are protected by UNESCO.
