Mongolia: Chuluut River Gorge
On the way west from Tsetserlen, the road crosses a picturesque Chuluut River with deep gorge curving in an almost perfect U-shape. The river has cut out a channel almost 200 feet deep in the volcanic rock. Also nearby is a Taikhar Chuluu Rock – a volcanic plug rising out of nowhere in the flat field – this is a sight of local legends and religious significance (supposedly some baatar warrior slaughtered a dragon here – naturally!) and many Buddhist monks come here to pay respect.
