Mongolia: Yolyn Am Gorge

Yolyn Am is perhaps most spectacular, most narrow, and longest canyon in Mongolia. It is located in the Gurvan Saikhan mountains in the eastern flank of the Gobi Desert. You can hike through it for many miles following the strewn running between the massive towering walls. The walls go to over 600ft high making the canyon dark even at the height of the day. In fact, it is know as “the ice canyon” as the ice accumulates upto several meters thick in its darkest and narrowest part during winter and doesn’t melt until early September!
