Morocco: Marrakesh – Bahia Palace
Bahia Palace is a magnificent palace in the heart of Marrakech, Morocco. Built in the late 19th century, it was intended to be the greatest palace of its time and capture the essence of Islamic and Moroccan architectural styles. The palace was constructed by Si Moussa, a former slave who rose to become a grand vizier, and later expanded by his son, Ba Ahmed. The name “Bahia” means “brilliance,” reflecting the palace’s intended grandeur. The Bahia Palace is a showcase of Moroccan architecture, with intricate tilework, stucco, and wood carvings. The palace is a blend of Andalusian and Moorish styles, with large courtyards, lush gardens, and mega ornate rooms. Room after room of this labyrinth, you walk around with your head to the ceiling and neck in pain, adoring all the insanely elaborate decorations.
