Mozambique: Bazaruto Island
Bazaruto Island is the largest island in Mozambique’s stunning Bazaruto Archipelago National Park. It has massive sand dunes and inland freshwater lakes that host flamingoes on them. The dunes reach heights of up to 90 m (300 ft), among the tallest on any barrier island. Climbing these dunes is quite an adventure, especially since the sand is very hot, but the panoramic views are well worth it. The island’s interior with dunes and lakes and desolate lagoons are totally otherworldly and devoid of people.
