Mozambique: Maputo – Jardim Tunduru
Jardim Tunduru is a historic botanical garden right in the heart of Maputo. It was established in 1885, originally called Jardim Vasco da Gama during the colonial era, it functioned as a leisure spot for the elite, featuring nurseries and a small zoo. After Mozambique’s independence in 1975, it was renamed Jardim Tunduru and quickly went into a total neglect, but underwent restoration around 2013, reopening to the public. While it has some interesting flora, it’s a massive rookery of bats that is the coolest part!
