Mozambican cuisines is a blend of Portuguese, African, Indian Ocean influences – and it’s sooooo good – flavorful, spicy, and relies on fresh ingredients like coconut, cashews, peanuts, cassava, maize, and piri-piri chili. Seafood shines due to the long Indian Ocean coastline: grilled giant prawns, lobster, crab, clams, and fish – separate or stewed together. Maputo’s dining scene in particular is awesome, highlighting fresh seafood, Portuguese-Mozambican fusion, and ocean views. A couple waterfront restaurants we went to were phenomenal – Waterfront and Zambi. The former is just full of local favorites in large portions and simply presented.
