Mozambique: Vilankulos – Dunas Vermelhas aka Red Dunes

The Dunas Vermelhas aka Red Dunes near Vilanculos are a striking natural feature along the mainland coastline, roughly 10–15 km north of town. They offer panoramic views over the Indian Ocean and the nearby Bazaruto Archipelago. These dunes have reddish-orange sand, intensified by the dry climate and strong sun, which contrasts with the turquoise waters, tidal sandbanks, and distant islands. You usually pass the dunes along your way to the Santa Carolina island in the archipelago.
