Myanmar: Mandalay – Atumashi Mondastery

Atumashi is another spectacular monastery built in the mid 1800s by Burmese royalty (basically for about 100 years each king wanted to outdo each other in the splendor of their religious temples and palaces). Unlike other structures, this one had a four tiered roof and no spiky towers. It was originally made from teak wood but burned down (and the 19 carat diamond from its roof mysteriously disappeared). The monastery was reconstructed in 1996.
