Myanmar: Cane Sugar Factory
Abundant sugar cane growing along the shores of the Inle Lake is used to make cane sugar at small rustic factories. The sugar cane juice is pressed from freshly cut plant and then boiled to evaporate the excess liquid. The resulting molasses are then sun dried into candy-like sheets that are subsequently cut into square blocks and packed in boxes. The fresh brown sugar candies are delicious!
