Myanmar: Mandalay – Mandalay Market
Mandalay brought another truly authentic produce market, away from the tourist sites and in the heart of the busy city life. Several city blocks are lined up haphazardly by cellars of various vegetables and fruits as well as loads of fish from the Aeyrwaddy River. While many items were quite exotic and some I have never seen before, it was the people sellers that were most interesting – women sitting behind mountains of lime or dry fish, others working or preparing various fresh pickles and dishes, and yet others arranging quail eggs or weird mushrooms, or hiding behind mountains of garlic cloves.
