Namibia: Windhoek
Windhoek is the capital of Namibia, founded 1808 by German soldiers. The city served as administrative capital during the German colonial time and later during the South African rule, until Namibia became independent in 1990. The city center is walkable and compact and has a few pretty attractions – Christuskirche (a historic Lutheran church built in the early 1900s with distinctive neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau elements), Independence Memorial Museum (a museum dedicated to Namibia’s struggle for independence, offering panoramic views of the city), Alte Feste (a historic fort from the German colonial era), and more.
