Nepal: Elephant Safari at Chitwan National Park
The arguably main thing in the Chitwan National Park is the elephant safari – you go exploring the jungle forest from the back of a domesticated Asian elephant. Supposedly, the wildlife is not afraid of the elephants and you get to see more – I am not sure that was the case. But with no car safari in Chitwan – elephants are perhaps the only way to explore the jungle deeper. You sit on the back of a swaying Asian elephant, sharing it with 3 other people and a driver, as it sways its way though forest, swamps, and river crossings. Fun and exotic – yes, would I do that again? – no. Elephants were treated more or less humanely, but still it’s not my cup of tea.
