Nepal: Kathmandu – Thamel Neighborhood

Thamel is a district in central Kathmandu that is known as “backpackers’ Heaven”. There are tons of hotels (mostly inexpensive), bars and restaurants, and endless shops filled with hiking and mountaineering gear (some of good quality), souvenirs, paintings, and more. We found a restaurant with a rooftop that offered ultra panoramic views of Kathmandu at sunset! It’s a huge city of 1.6 million, and the larger Kathmandu Valley is over 5 million people.
