Nepal: Ruslan Vodka

It’s awesome when the number one alcoholic beverage in a country of 27 million people carries your name. Ruslan Vodka is ubiquitous in Nepal in every city, town and village. Every bar, restaurant, and dive drinking hole not only carries the spirit but is emblazoned with the name since Ruslan Vodka sponsors the signs for every location. Modeled to look Russian – with eagles and the crown – this “triple distilled” “100% pure vodka” is only 35 percent alcohol (which disqualifies it from being a vodka actually). When I asked why only 35, one bartender said – we are small people and it’s hot here so it’s enough.
