Netherlands: Maastricht
And the last and final post on the European Mayday mini-trip – Maastricht, the oldest city in Europe, established as the Roman Empire outpost. Today, it has 1677 cultural heritage sites, second only to Amsterdam. Maastricht is synonymous with European Union and euro as both treaties were signed here (I wonder if the dissolution treaty would be signed here as well?). There are two major squares in the old town core – the Markt with the Townhall in the middle and the Vrijthof in front of a pair of cathedrals. Beer bars line up pretty much every street.
