New Zealand: Curio Bay Petrified Forest
A stunning place geologically, the Curio Bay is one of the best-preserved locations of an ancient petrified forest in the world, over 180 million years old, the time of Jurassic period. Massive logs and stumps are the stone remains of ancient conifer trees closely related to modern kauri and Norfolk Pine. These trees got buried by ancient mud and lava flows and eventually got fossilized.
