New Zealand: Fiordland NP – Fiordland Crested Penguin
Fiordland crested penguin (Eudyptes pachyrhynchus) is one of the rarest penguins in the world, endemic and found only in the Milford Sound and surrounding areas of the Fiordland National Park. It’s estimated, that only less than 2000 individuals remain, so I was quite likely to see about a dozen of them on the shores of Milford Sound. Black and white overall, they have funny Joker-like multicolored faces with red beaks and massive orange eyebrows that crest over their heads.
