New Zealand: Wai-O-Tapu – Champagne Pool
One of its highlights at Wai-O-Topu is the Champagne Pool, a large hot spring with a distinctive orange and turquoise coloration, surrounded by a rim of vivid mineral deposits. The pool gets its name from the effervescent carbon dioxide CO2 bubbles rising to the surface, resembling a glass of champagne. The pool formed during a volcanic eruption around 900 years ago, and is 65 m (213 ft) in diameter with a max depth of 62 m (203 ft). The water temperature in the pool is between 73-75 Celsius. The pool is somewhat similar to the Grand Prismatic Pool in Yellowstone in the USA.
