Nicaragua: Momotombo Volcano

The perfectly comical and utterly scenic a Momotombo Volcano on the shores of Lake Managua is the one responsible for the eruption that nearly hurried the old city of Leon and caused it to relocated 40km north in 1610. Momotombo also erupted in 1886, 1905, and most recently in 2015. It’s active and smoking today as well. It is the most symmetrical of all the Nicaragua’s 26 volcanoes and is the national symbol. The volcano is climbable although not really safe as the route up is constantly changing due to new and evolving geothermal activity.
