Nicaragua: Telica Volcano
Nicaragua has 26 volcanoes – a massive number for a small country. Quite a few are active and around Leon, you can see at least 6 line up around the city. Volcano climbing is a must in Nicaragua and Telica is one of the best – a relatively moderate 1 hour accent takes you to the rim of the crater, puffing noxious gases. You won’t be able to do it in many other countries – get so close to the door of hell and not be warned and stopped because of danger. Telica actually has a double crater at the top, 700m wide and 200m deep. The volcano is very active and belches gas and ash almost every year, covering the surrounding villages.
