Nigeria: Lagos – Insanity of the Balogan Markets

This was a total insanity just walking a couple city blocks along this busy market street in the heart of Lagos island – the cacophony of sounds and dangers was simply overwhelming – cars, vans, bikes and people pushing through and pumping horns and screaming – one pause and you will be knocked down or driven over. Large women in mega colorful dresses carrying loads on their heads, sweaty men selling watches and glasses, everybody gawking something at you one way or another, traffic in all possible directions. Add on top the sensory overload of the massive Lagos Central Mosque towering above you and the smell of cooking foods and underarm sweat hitting your nose and you end up with a pretty complete and accurate picture of what Lagos is like.
