Norfolk Island: Hundred Acres Preserve
This is the oldest nature preserve on the Norfolk Island, unchanged since 1840s when a large stand of Norfolk pine was left untouched. Several hikes here are fantastic to get acquainted with outstanding local flora – Norfolk pine, giant ferns, and even more giant fig trees. Once you get down to the coast (after sliding downhill in mud a few times on your ass), you are treated to awesome seascape at the Rocky Point. And tons of birds here – common noddy, white tern, and red-tailed tropic birds (but that’s in next post).
