Norfolk Island: Saint Barnabas Church

Saint Barnabas Church is a small chapel in the middle of the island, built in 1880 in honor of Bishop Patterson, who was the bishop for the entire Melanesia and was killed in the Solomon Islands by the locals in 1871. The church is beautiful in the exterior, but it’s the interior of it that is truly impressive. Marble floors, colorful stained glass windows, richly carved woodwork, and most impressively the wooden seats – decorated with pearl shell inlays depicting seabirds – absolutely stunning!
