North Korea: Mangyondae Schoolchildrens’ Palace
This was truly awesome – the massive children palace just built a year ago. Marble, lights, a model rocket, sports halls, and many different study rooms where kids learn everything that North Korea is proud of – dancing, singing, embroidery, painting, music, and so on. Young pioneer kids with red tie did their best to impress the foreign visitors – some of it was clearly overboard (like a 7-year old girl finishing an embroidery of a Siberian tiger), but a lot was real. It brought memories of me being a young pioneer and performing in a folk dance group for 10 years…
