North Korea: North Korean Food Recap
North Korean food and hospitality were fantastic and authentic – from bulgogi to endless kimchi to a wide variety of traditional Korean vegetable and fried dishes. Among the most outstanding things were dog soup (sorry Rex), Pyongyang cold buckwheat noodles, hot pot, Korean roast duck (made at your table), and even more kimchi. Some rare North Korean specialties included raw seasoned pollock sashimi/tartar and the steamed hairy crab from the Yellow Sea. And Koreans have no qualms about alcohol – local beers and so-ju (rice wine) were plentiful and strong and delicious.
