North Macedonia: Sveti Panteleimon Church
An absolute jewel attraction lies actually just outside of Scopje, high up on a mountain slope overlooking the city – Sveti Panteleimon Church. The Byzantine church was built in 1164 and has some of the finest original 12th century religious frescoes anywhere in the world! The elaborate biblical scene art covers most of the walls, ceiling and even small side columnar domes of the small church. You walk inside the dimly lit church and stair upwards onto the ceiling in a total awe.
