Norway: Skatvik Bay – Reindeer
No trip to Norway is complete without seeing reindeer (aka caribou in America). Especially if they are set against the stunning sunset background of the Skatvik Bay in the Senja Island. Amazing animals totally adapted to the harsh life in the polar regions of the world: their nostrils are enlarged to allow for heating up the incoming frigid air, the hooves change shape in winter to expose crampon-like ice-cutting edges, their eyes can see light significantly below the human eye threshold (useful in eternal darkness in winter), their urine glows in ultraviolet light, and their knees click when they walk to establish communication with others. Oh, and they bring presents at Christmas, with their noses bright red due to excessive aquavit intake!
