Norway: Sognefjord
Sognefjord is known as the King of Fjords in Norway – it is the longest fjord in the country, running 205 km (127 mi) inland from the ocean, as it is also the deepest fjord as well, reaching maximum depth of 1,308 m (4,291 ft) below sea level. Many smaller fjords branch off Sognefjord, including several that are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. We crossed Sognefjord several times up and down, cruising on different ferries and at different spots with spectacular views of nearly sheer cliffs rising everywhere to heights of 1,000 m (3,300 ft) and even higher. Plus driving along all the roads twisting around the Sognefjord – priceless quintessential Norwegian experience.
