Okinawa: Makishi Market in Naha

Makishi market is located the heart of Okinawa’s capital of Naha, comprising several narrow streets and a coveted two-story marketplace. The most amazing seafood is on sale here and you can have absolutely any of it prepared as sashimi for you right here and now. Lobsters (pacific and flathead), 4 types of crabs, half a dozen types of clams (including giant clams), humongous oysters, sea urchin uni, and then of course gazillion types of fish including the puff fish which is supposedly the deadliest sashimi in the world (not I didn’t try it). There are also weird body parts of other animals and a variety of seaweed (including super delicious Okinawa specialty of sea grapes). I could just live in this market….
