Oman: Bukha
Bukha Fort is located in the Musandam Peninsula, the tip portion of the Arabian Peninsula that reaches out toward Iran and the straight of Hormuz. This magnificent fort is in the most picturesque location – the sea is just in front of it in a perfect crescent bay while tall mountains rise precipitously just above. The fort was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese and changed many hands since then. It’s fully renovated and spectacular. And there’s more – a watch tower is perched high above in the mountains that you can drive up to for panoramic views. Also a spectacular mosque stands in the center of the city next to the fort.
