Pakistan: Babusar Pass

The highest point in the way north to Gilgit is the spectacular Babusar Pass – 4,173 m (13,691 feet). Historically called Babur Top, it was named after Mughal emperor Babur, who passed through in the early 16th century. In the top of the pass there are usually crowds of people, lots of stalls with food and various attractions. But hectic stuff aside, the views of the valleys, snow-covered mountain peaks, rivers and streams, and endless green expanse are truly stupendous. The road both up and down the pass is an endless chain of switchbacks, many quite rough, but offering even more spectacular panoramic views.
