Pakistan: Karachi – Empress Market

Empress Market, located in Saddar Town in central Karachi, was built between 1884-89 during the British Raj, named after Queen Victoria, Empress of India. It was designed by the British in the Indo-Gothic style with vaulted roofs, cusped arches, and a 140-foot clock tower adorned with leopard heads. And while the outside may be British and colonial, the interior is all Pakistani – bustle and hustle of sellers and buyers – fresh produce, spices, meat, textiles, and anything and everything else. Its amazing for people watching and truly authentic.
