Pakistan: Karimabad
Karimabad is the main town and somewhat of a capital of Hunza Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan. Situated at an elevation of about 2,500 m (8,200 feet), Karimabad is surrounded by towering peaks like Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, and Ladyfinger. The town is very vertical – all the streets are steep and lead up to the hilltop with the massive and beautiful fortress on top (next post). The steep streets of the town are lined with shops and it’s one large neverending market of crafts, cafe serving unique Hunza dishes (quite different from other Pakistani stuff), and also fruit stands – Hunza is famous for its apricots and cherries!
