Pakistan: Takht-i-Bahi Buddhist Monastery
Takht-i-Bahi is like the Machu Pichu of Pakistan! Translated as “Throne of the Water Spring,” it is an ancient Buddhist monastery complex located in north of Peshawar and dating back to the 1st century AD! It is one of the most well-preserved and significant relics of the Gandhara civilization and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It sits on a hilltop and requires a steep 500 feet climb to get to its plateau. The are constitute of a Stupa Court – central courtyard with a cluster of stupas, and monastic chambers – individual cells around the courtyard. Above all that is the Temple Complex – the part resembling Machu Pichu in structure and panoramic views.
