Panama: Coatis

Fort San Lorenzo sits in a pristine San Lorenzo Protected area of wild jungle and getting to it requires driving though the wild forests full of wildlife. One of the most common animals you can encounter here are coatis aka gato solo as they are called in Panama. Coati is a raccoon relative with a distinctive long, flexible snout (great for foraging), a ringed bushy tail often held upright, a white muzzle, and brownish-gray fur. These animals are highly adaptable, diurnal (active during the day), omnivorous (eating fruits, insects, small vertebrates, and more), and very agile climbers. They are also very aggressive and not only come begging for food but quite aggressively approach and often even attack humans. Nevertheless, these are amazing animals to observe!
